Name: Bell Pepper

Flavour: Bell peppers have a sweet and slightly tangy flavour. They come in different colours such as green, red, yellow, and orange, with each colour having its own unique taste. Green peppers are slightly more bitter, while the red, yellow, and orange ones are sweeter.

Growing Season: Bell peppers are warm-season crops and are typically grown during the summer months. The growing season usually starts in late spring or early summer and continues until early autumn.

Native Region: Bell peppers are native to Central and South America. They were first cultivated in Mexico and later spread to other parts of the world.

Traditional Recipe: One traditional recipe featuring bell peppers is stuffed bell peppers. In this dish, the peppers are filled with a mixture of rice, meat (such as ground beef or sausage), vegetables, and seasonings. The stuffed peppers are then baked until tender and the flavours meld together.

Health Properties: Bell peppers are low in calories and rich in essential nutrients. They are an excellent source of vitamin C, which is important for immune function and skin health. Bell peppers also contain dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin B6, and potassium. The different colors of bell peppers indicate varying levels of antioxidants, with red peppers being the highest in antioxidants.

Growing Technique: To grow bell peppers, start by planting the seeds indoors during early spring, as they require a longer growing season. Once the threat of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up, transplant the seedlings to a sunny spot in the garden. Bell peppers thrive in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Maintain consistent watering and provide support for the plants as they grow. Harvest the peppers when they reach the desired size and colour, usually around 60 to 90 days after transplanting.
