Douces Dames

Known as Jersey’s only real dessert apple. A sweet apple with little to no acidity. A rounded apple shape with yellow skin and a pink flush on the sunny side. Crops in early September. Like most early apples, it does not keep. Eat within two weeks of picking. Makes a tall and vigorous tree. Very healthy. Rarely suffers from any scab or canker. Heavy cropper. Was also used for early season cider. When this variety was saved in the early 1990’s, it is thought that there was only a single tree left.
